Pou He Taumata Rau. A Signpost of Standing and Values.
The University of Auckland (UoA) has a significant footprint in the Auckland, but there was no single location that represented the UoA as a single entity. The brief was to create a physical signpost for the UoA that represented its standing and values in a single geographical narrative. The original Resource Consent material was prepared by Isthmus Group and GreensceneNZ Landscapes developed designs, budget, a significant engineering package, BC documents, signage, lighting and a detailed final construction package, which was implemented.
Located at the junction of two of New Zealand’s busiest roads, combined with underground services including major gas, wastewater and the entire CBD’s fibre feed were major planning considerations.
The infrastructure for the landscape was engineered to be independent of the existing underground services. Once excavated the full extent and the location of services was realised, a significant redesign of the walls, signage, Pou footing, lighting and staircase was managed in conjunction with the build process. All with no major time delays, a scenario particularly suited to GreensceneNZ Landscape’s design and build process. Finally, GreensceneNZ Landscapes took the opportunity to develop a dynamic new planting plan during reinstatement, giving a truly impressive entrance to the university.
