Landscaping Stand Tū Māia Whangārei

Positioned on the urban edge of Maunu, the Stand Tū Māia Whangārei Regional Centre has been shaped to reflect both its community and the natural rhythms of the nearby Pukenui Forest. GreensceneNZ Landscapes delivered a landscape that honours native ecology, supports nature play, and expresses manaakitanga through calm, people-centred design.

Beginning at the Resource Consent Concept stage allowed us to define a clear design strategy rooted in local character. Native tree frameworks, amenity planting, and a curated furniture palette create a cohesive outdoor environment that balances functionality with a sense of place.

The natural environment guided every decision, with a robust native plant mix suited to Maunu’s climate forming the foundation of the 1000m² planting area. Meandering shrubs soften the building edge, a central lawn anchored by pōhutukawa welcomes communal use, and the reinstated playground reflects nature-play principles.

Detailed working drawings, on-site observation, and careful plant procurement ensured consistency from concept to completion, maintaining ecological sensitivity and design intent throughout construction.

We congratulate Stand Tū Māia Whangārei, Trigg Construction, and HB Architecture on delivering a meaningful community asset, and we’re proud to have helped shape a landscape that reflects both its people and its place.
